Luzon to experience more rains until weekend due to 'Inday'

Rains will continue to prevail over Luzon until Saturday as Tropical Storm Inday further intensified Thursday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

READ: #WalangPasok: Class Suspensions on July 20, 2018 (Friday)

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon, boosted by “Inday,” is set to bring intermittent moderate to heavy rainfall over Zambales, Bataan, the Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Region as the tropical storm moves eastnortheastward at 20 kilometers per hour over the Philippine Sea.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will experience scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

“Inday” was last spotted 935 kilometers east of east of Basco, Batanes as of 10 a.m. today. It packs maximum sustained of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

Residents are advised to take appropriate measures against possible flooding and landslides and coordinate with local disaster risk and management reduction offices.

No tropical cyclone signal has been raised over any part of the country.

Sea travel remains dangerous over the eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the seaboard of Central Luzon due to rough to very rough seas associated with the southwest monsoon and “Inday,” PAGASA warned.

The tropical storm is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday morning.

“Inday” immediately replaced Tropical Storm Henry (international name: Son-Tinh), which left the Philippine Area of Responsibility Tuesday.

“Henry” left three people dead on Tuesday, namely Joshua Vincent Paulino, 15, from Sta. Barbara Pangasinan; Regine Thasis and Sunshine Cabus, both 13 years old from Lasam town in Cagayan. All three drowned in separate incidents in Cagayan and Pangasinan.

        Forecast positions:
        • Friday morning: 980 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.
        • Saturday morning: 860 kilometers northeast f Basco, Batanes.
        • Sunday morning: 975 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes.
        • Monday morning: 1,320 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes.

        New! RPMS 2018 Manual

YOUR GUIDE TO USING RPMS TOOLS FOR TEACHERS FROM PORTFOLIO PREPARATION TO ASSESSMENT

TEACHERS play a crucial role in improving the quality of the teaching and learning process. Good teachers are vital to raising student achievement. Hence, enhancing teacher quality ranks foremost in the many educational reform efforts toward quality education.

To complement reform initiatives on teacher quality, the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) has been developed and nationally validated. This was signed into policy by Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Maria Leonor Briones through DepEd Order No. 42, s. 2017.

The PPST articulates what constitutes teacher quality through well-defined domains, strands and indicators that provide measures of professional learning, competent practice and effective engagement across teachers’ career stages. This document serves as a public statement of professional accountability that can help teachers reflect on and assess their own practices as they aspire for personal growth and professional development.

In 2015, the DepEd issued Order No. 2, s. 2015 — “Guidelines on the Establishment and Implementation of the Results-based Performance Management System (RPMS) in the Department of Education” following Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 06, s. 2012 or the Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS) to ensure efficient, timely and quality performance among personnel.

The guidelines explain mechanisms, criteria and processes for performance target setting, monitoring, evaluation and development planning. Through the RPMS, the DepEd ensures that work efforts focus towards achieving its vision, mission, values and strategic priorities toward the delivery of quality educational services to Filipino learners.

The alignment of the RPMS with the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers has led to the development of new results-based assessment tools; hence, this Manual on RPMS Tools for Teachers.

This Manual provides information and guidance to Teachers and School Heads in the performance assessment process. For Teachers, the Manual guides them through the basics in preparing and completing RPMS documents. It describes the appropriate tools to assess performance and explains the different assessment phases for teachers. It also introduces the concept of annotations to guide teachers through critical reflection of their practices for their continuous improvement.

For School Heads and other Raters, this Manual contains all the information needed to assess teacher performance. It provides a detailed reference to help in the understanding of the tools and the different phases of assessment within the various cycles of RPMS, ensuring that mechanisms are in place to support teacher performance.

Resources for Marungko Approach, a Strategy in Reading

The Marungko Approach is designed to equip Grade one pupils the necessary materials to improve their achievement in reading. Likewise, it seeks to develop a training model to enhance teachers’ competence in the teaching of reading in the primary grades most especially in Grade one.

The goal of this strategy in reading is to enable grade one pupils to instill in their minds to appreciate the songs and poems created for Filipino children and eventually to communicate in written and oral forms through effective reading instruction.

The Marungko approach provides materials to the success in teaching reading. Hand signs of different letters in the alphabet are being taught in this technique.

Letters and sound of the letters are introduced in songs and poems .Hence, the pupils would have fun singing and reciting the poems and at the same time they would be able to recognize or read the
        words easily.

With this technique, it helped us a lot in achieving a Zero Non-Reader in our class.
