More than 26M students expected this school year - DepEd

More than 26 million students from kindergarten to grade 12 are expected this school year given the shift to the K-12 education system, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Sunday.

"Projected kinder to grade 12, more or less 26,969,816 (students), public and private school," Education Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali said in a radio dzBB interview.

Umali said there was an 8.2-percent increase in enrollees this school year due to the new grade 12 level in the Philippine education system.

"Dahilan po niyan ay meron po tayong isang bagong taon, new year, grade 12," he said.

Umali also noted that other students who chose not to enroll in college decided to enroll in grade 12.

"'Yan ay pinaghahandaan po natin at iba pong bugso ng estudyante," he said.

In the same interview, Umali said the DepEd was given a total budget of P543 billion this year, enough to finance the needs of the agency.

"We have sufficient amount to construct more or less 47,000 classrooms at to hire 53,000 more or less teachers," Umali said.

Orders from RD Malcolm S. Garma re opening of classes on June 5, 2017
(From the ReManCom, June 2)

1. All should be ready for the first lesson. The first day always leaves first impressions on the school.
2. Secondary school heads should apply their organizational skills. They should strategize on how to make do with available resources. Learn from the lessons of school heads of NCR on handling first day of classes.
3. Elementary school heads should manage classroom instruction and make their schools have welcoming atmosphere.
4. Test the readiness of newly hired SHS teachers to teach higher academic subjects and how to motivate SHS students.
5. SDSs should check good governance. Reiterate and strictly implement the NO COLLECTION POLICY. School heads should not hide behind their PTAs.
6. It is not the work of the PTA to raise funds for the school. Instead, it should motivate parents to show concern to their children. It is the function of the principal to manage resources - the MOOE. SDSs should check the status of MOOE utilization.
7. Check the establishments around the school. Check the food served outside the campus.
8. Account students to determine excess teachers. Redistribute excess teachers and items in the division.
9. Check and validate loading of teachers
10. Validate enrolment data.
11. There should be help desks at the D.O and in schools.
12. Do not have different school uniforms for students enrolled in special programs. This results in discrimination.
13. June 3 - First Parent Teacher Conference
14. Check food served in the school canteen. Follow deped order on food categories. Serve "green" food.
15. Textbooks and IMs should be ready for distribution on June 5.
16. Students from private schools without credentials may be temporarily enrolled up to first quarter only.
17. Standardized class programs
18. Deploy master teachers even in far-flung schools.
19. Assign information officer to speak with Media to give accurate information.
20. SDOs will be given 2 weeks to submit the "semi-final" inventory on enrolment data.

The Secretary's Message on the School Opening

Today, we open the doors of our schools and learning spaces to 27.7 million learners wherever they are, whoever they and their parents are, and whatever the political and religious beliefs of their families are. Every effort will be made to accommodate all of them.
We have spent an entire year catching up with classroom shortages, lack of textbooks, seats, laboratories, and teachers. We have had two nationwide exercises which mobilized and energized the entire country to prepare for the return of learners already in school or who have dropped out, as well as those going to school for the first time. One is the "Brigada Eskwela" and the other is "Oplan Balik Eskwela." Both were generously supported by entire communities, parents, religious organizations, civic associations, and the families of teachers.
We know, however, that we live in challenging times. School openings have always been beset by problems. These usual difficulties are now exacerbated by political challenges and threats to national security.
Nonetheless, we are opening classes according to the announced schedule, which is today. For obvious reasons, Marawi City and eight districts of Lanao del Sur will be delayed by two weeks. Schedules of classes will be adjusted so these will start early and dismiss early. The usual documents which are required will be dispensed with in the case of children from displaced families. We are also making adjustments for schools which will have increased enrollments and those which will have lesser students.
We would like to remind all who are actively involved in the armed conflict that our schools are zones of peace where learning and teaching will continue as scheduled, whether in times of peace or periods of uncertainty.
Once again, we welcome each and everyone of you to School Year 2017-2018!

ANO BA?

Kaya nga may shifting.

Mandatory submission of IPCRF coerces teachers to lie and cheat

Let's take the hard fact and painful reality of what the public teacher regarded the mandatory submission of their Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF) as made public by an elementary grade teacher II - ICT.

She has relayed on how unreliable this teacher's IPCRF. In her own right and privilege, she described her dissatisfaction objectively. She has pointed out that quality education and the quality of teacher's teaching are not guaranteed by such paper works. She stressed that it is a waste of time.

Teachers are not helped improving their teaching competencies in achieving quality education, she firmly expressed.

DepEd Order No. 2,s. 2015

Guidelines on the establishment and implementation of the Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS) in the Department of Education are covered by DepEd Order No. 2, s. 2015, dated February 6, 2015.

This is to provide the DepEd a comprehensive guidelines for the adoption of the Civil Service Commission's (CSC) Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS).

The said DepEd Order takes effect immediately on February 6, 2015. At the end of the school year 2015-2016, all personnel and non-teaching in the DepEd have complied with this system.

Now this is its second year of implementation for school year 2016-2017.
How is it now?

Teacher's Reaction

The following is the hard fact and the painful reality on the implementation of IPCRF as aired by a concerned teacher, an elementary grade teacher II. With her permission, I quote her post verbatim from her Facebook account:

"High rating of teacher's IPCRF is not at all a guarantee of quality education. It will actually contribute in the further deterioration of the quality of teaching.
Teachers are supposed to focus and devote their precious time and efforts on teaching and seek further education for personal and professional growth and further enhance teaching skills and strategies.
Mandatory submission of annual IPCRF is a wanton disregard of its impact to the teachers' being in particular and his actual output in general, considering his wasted time in securing "hard evidence" to "prove high individual performance".
Teachers are in "delivery service" and NOT in "advertising" industry. We deliver and transfer the knowledge to the learners. We do not submit papers, documents, pictures, certificates and the likes to impress superiors and tell the whole world that we performed well and met the expected output. Papers do not guarantee that individual really delivered the expected output.
Honestly? Mandatory submission of IPCRF only induce SOME (not all) to lie and to cheat. Simply put, IPCRF is not helping every teacher's dream to achieve quality education. We simply DELIVER, we do not ADVERTISE for we are not SELLERS. We are PRODUCERS."

Is it a form of lying and cheating for the teachers to oblige them to submit their personal IPCRF every end of the school year? What do you think?

IBA'T IBANG KLASE NG TEACHER SA ISANG PAARALAN

Posted by Emmanuel Herrera Villariña sa Deped Tambayan FB Group

(Wow, masyadong malinis as if wala siyang baho.

5. CASHIER: Napakagaling sa pagtitinda. (I-share mo naman ang God-given talent mo!)
