(SReYA) School Readiness Year-end Assessment Tools and Forms for Kindergarten

$
0
0

The Department of Education has issued the guidelines in assessing the year-end school readiness of kindergarten to check on their pre-schooling progress with the end view of providing them with specific learning intervention.

Kindergarten education has been made mandatory in public schools in 2011 by virtue of Republic Act 10157. To assess the performance level of all kindergarten pupils, DepEd came up with School Readiness Year-end Assessment (SReYA).

Kindergarten pupils will be assessed across the different developmental domains that include physical health and well-being, motor development, mathematics, language and literacy, sensory perceptual, physical and social environment, character and values development and socioemotional development.
“Kinder education and the school readiness assessment are vital for the holistic development of a Filipino child,” said Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC.

The result of the assessment will be a critical input for the Grade 1 teachers because they will be provided with children’s readiness profile which is crucial in addressing the pupils’ specific learning needs. On the other hand, the kindergarten teachers will have a basis to improve their instructional skills.

The SReYA will be conducted using the pupils’ mother tongue or the language spoken at home by the children.

Luistro made it clear that the assessment is not considered an achievement test or final exam. “The SReYA is not an entrance exam for the next grade level, thus, no child shall be refused entry to Grade 1 based on the result of the assessment,” Luistro emphasized.

SReYA shall be administered at the end of each school year in every school.

Teachers are facing further delays over salary increases this January.
The delay in the payment of the teachers’ salaries in the country have brought several speculations among teachers. Some though it maybe because of adjusting the salary increase brought by 2nd tranche.

Here's also a post in DepEd Tambayan FB Group about the delay of salary in January by Director Paul Garcia of DepedNCR.

Save your phone’s battery, memory with these simple tips

Living in the digital age gives us access to everything from the oldest memories to the most relevant facts—but only for as long as we keep our batteries alive and our storage free of clutter.

Keeping your smartphone in top working condition need not be more complicated than adjusting some of your gadget's settings.

According to gadget experts, make sure to keep your screen brightness at 30% and avoid turning on WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and GPS unless you really need to use them. These settings consume the most power from your smartphones.

To save storage space, delete unnecessary applications, turn off your Photo Stream (for iPhone users), and be wary of the “Auto-save” setting.

“Ang pinakamalaking kumakain ng storage natin ay 'yung naka-auto save. Dito sa Pilipinas, uso ang Viber. Kapag nagpapadala ng pictures, usually ang settings ng tao, download everything. So lahat ng pictures at videos na ipinapadala doon, nase-save sa cellphone.

Kinakain ngayon ang storage,” said gadget technology expert Carlo Ople in a report on Unang Hirit. There are also applications and external storage devices to help you manage your files, including the USB On-The-Go (USB-OTG) and external SD cards.— Bianca Rose Dabu/BM, GMA News -

Lawmaker wants Miss Universe coronation declared a holiday

A lawmaker on Tuesday urged Malacañang to declare as a non-working holiday the coronation of the new Miss Universe on January 30.
Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo said this is to allow Filipinos, including children, to witness the “once-in-a-year spectacle” hosted by the Philippines this year.

The coronation will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, where Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach—the third Filipina to win the title—will pass the crown to her successor.
“It would be a pity if our countrymen miss the opportunity to witness in their own backyard a contest where Filipinas have proven to excel and become certified champions on beauty and brains,” he said in a statement.
Castelo, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Metro Manila Development, also noted that the holiday would lessen traffic in the area.
“Remember, Manila would be on the eye of the world during the Miss Universe. The city should be at its best when the curtain rises,” he added.
President Rodrigo Duterte had expressed his support for the staging of the pageant in the country, but maintained that the event should not “disrupt” the people’s daily routine.
Duterte had ordered concerned agencies, notably the Department of Tourism, that there should be no road closures and “hiding of poverty” during the day of the event.
The DOT said activities related to the coronation day will be limited inside and around the Mall of Asia to avoid adding traffic along EDSA.
Some of the activities for the candidates were also held outside Manila, including Siargao, Cebu, Davao, and Vigan in Ilocos Sur. —ALG, GMA News

Damath/SciDamath Board for Tarpaulin Printing and Positions of Chips [High Quality]

Damath is a two-player educational board game combining the board game "Dama" (Filipino word for Checkers) and Math. It is used as a teaching tool for both elementary and high school mathematics. Every piece has a corresponding number and each even (white) square on board has a mathematical symbol. The game was invented by Jesus L. Huenda. The game is commonly played in all elementary and secondary schools in the Philippines

History

It was invented by Jesus Huenda, a teacher in Sorsogon, Philippines who had encountered problems in teaching math using traditional teaching methods. Inspired in part by an investigatory project called “Dama de Numero” submitted by a student in 1975, Huenda overhauled the game and introduced it to his class, who enjoyed playing. Damath became popular and in 1980, the first Damath tournament was held in Sorsogon. The next year, Huenda received a gold medallion from the late President Ferdinand Marcos for his contributions in the field of teaching mathematics. The game reached its peak popularity in the 1990s, when it made the rounds of several mathematics education conventions all over the world such as the 10th Conference of the Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA), the UNESCO-ICT4E conference in Thailand, the SEAMEO RECSAM/SEAMEC conference in Malaysia, and the APEC Learning Community Builders (ALCoB) conference in Korea. Damath was first introduced to the United States of America by an international Filipino educator, Reynaldo L. Duran at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Conference in New Mexico, USA in 2011

The Board and Pieces

Standard Damath Board

Integer Damath Piece Setup
The board is similar to a checkerboard but with a twist. All even (white) tiles on the board have a mathematical symbol which dictates the operation that will be used when a player's piece captures the opponent's piece. It has numbers labeled 0-7 on its sides to determine the coordinates of the piece. Each piece of the player has corresponding values depending on what type of damath is being played. Both board and damath pieces are mostly made of thick cardboard or illustration board.

Gameplay

The rules are similar to checkers but there are some differences:[
  • It is a 40-minute gameplay.
  • Every piece has a corresponding number.
  • One minute is allotted to each player to make a move.
  • Every move is recorded.
  • When capturing the opponent's piece. The score is obtained by calculating the number value of player's piece which captures the opponent's piece and the captured piece. The mathematical operation used depends where the player's piece lands after the capture.
  • The game is over when 20-minute gameplay is lapsed, The player resigns, The player has no more pieces, repetitive moves, or the last opponent's piece is cornered.
  • Final score is determined by adding all the value of the remaining piece against the scores obtained from capturing opponent's piece.
  • The one who has highest score is the winner.

Variationns

Damath has different variations:
  • Counting Damath
  • Whole Damath
  • Fraction Damath
  • Integer Damath
  • Rational Damath
  • Radical Damath
  • Polynomial Damath
  • Binary Damath
  • Trigonometric Damath

Sci-Dama

A derivative of Damath which was the name comes from the word Science and Damath. The gameplay is similar to Damath and it uses the same board. However, the pieces and the scoring system are different. The winner is determined by having the lowest score in the game, unlike Damath.
There are variations of Sci-Dama:
  • Electro Sci-Dama
  • Dama Sci-Notation
  • THI Sci-Dama
  • Thermo Sci-Dama
  • Sci-Dama Water Patrol
  • Sci-Dama Power Patrol
  • Sci-Damathan

Executive secretary Salvador Medialdea said January 27 and 30 will remain a regular working day across the country.
Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo and tourism secretary Wanda Teo earlier urged President Rodrigo Duterte to declare January 30 a special non-working holiday to allow more Filipinos to watch the pageant.
“Last hosted by the Philippines in 1994, the much awaited competition of beautiful women from across the globe would be held right here in our country, in Manila actually, so the more the occasion becomes very relevant for all of us,” Castelo explained.
He added this would also give the people respite from the political noise and work stress, as well as ease the gridlock in Metro Manila’s roads.
While January 27 has been announced as a working day by the Palace, classes and work on that day will be suspended in Binondo, Quiapo and Sta. Cruz areas in Manila as per mayor Joseph Estrada’s order.

Reiterating the Constitutional Right of DepEd Personnel and Students to Free Exercise of Religion
  1. The right of a man to worship God in his own view is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights under Article III, Section 5 of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines which states that:
“No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed. No religious test shall be required for the exercise of civil or political rights.”
  1. DepEd Memorandum No. 3, s. 2010 was issued on January 10, 2010 advising all DepEd officials to ensure that the free exercise of religion by DepEd personnel are respected in the course of the regular operations of the Department.
  2. Said memorandum, specifically mentioned that DepEd personnel belonging to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church should not be required to attend seminars, examinations, trainings and other professional development activities held on Saturday, which is their day of rest or church day, in accordance with their religious beliefs. However, in some public elementary and secondary schools, there is a practice of conducting special or make-up for the suspension of classes during typhoons or for any other reasons every Saturday for a particular duration of time. Hence, there are some complaints of discrimination and non-compliance with the provisions of DepEd Memorandum No. 3, s. 2010 in relation to the exercise of the right to religious worship by teachers. Likewise, there are complaints that said DepEd Memorandum excludes affected students from its coverage.
  3. Accordingly, all concerned are hereby informed and advised of the following:
  1. DepEd personnel and students belonging to any religious group, where Saturday is their day of rest or “church day,” should not be required to attend seminars, examinations, special classes, trainings and other school activities on Saturdays;
  2. There should be no diminution or deduction in the salaries (in the case of teachers) or no effect in the grades (in the case of students) for those teachers and students who incur absences on Saturdays due to the exercise of their right to religious worship; and
  3. An arrangement should be made by the concerned teacher/ personnel with the school head for the performance of functions or by the concerned students with the teacher for the completion of school requirements, without prejudice to their right to free exercise of religion.
  1. Immediate and wide dissemination of and strict compliance to this Order is directed.
