Comelec raises pay for election inspectors
To entice more volunteers to serve during the elections, the Commission on Election (Comelec) has raised its honoraria for people, who will become members of its Electoral Boards (EB).
In its Resolution No. 10194, Comelec opted to raise the honoraria for the Chairperson of the EB to P6,000 from P4,000 in the May 2016 polls.
It also implemented a P1,000 honoraria hike for members of the EB and the Department of Education Supervisor Officials (DESOs).
The new honoraria rate for EB members is now at P5,000, while the rate for DESOs is at P4,000.
Meanwhile, the honoraria rate for the support staff of DESOs was raised to P2,000 from P1,500 in the previous election.
Aside from the honararia, Comelec also increased the travel allowance for its chairpersons, members of the Electoral Board, DESOs and their respective support staff members from P500 to P1,000.
Lastly, the poll body raised the death benefits per election volunteers from P200,000 to P500,000.
It also allocated a maximum of P200,000 for each person who rendered election-related service and suffered election-related injury or illness.
“The honoraria and allowances mentioned… shall be paid within fifteen days from the date of election,” Comelec said.
The new rates will be subject to the review of the Comelec and the Department of Education (DepEd) every three years.
